I walk down the sidewalk
In Ukranian Village
South of Wicker Park
Notice, there’s a lady
Standing in front of a brick building
A rose in her left hand
She looks sad
She looks old, weathered from the cold
Today, indicative, the winter, the hardhips, twenty-nine

The rose petals are wilting
The first flutters to the concrete ground, it’s a sign
Beware of dog, no trespassing
The brick wall blues are going around

She waves her right hand through her hair
Lights a cigarette
Tilts her head up in the air
Speaks her mind
How everything seems to be gone
Except these blues
Leaning against the wall
They don’t move
Others walk the blocks
Passing her by, pass right by

The brick walls are painted blue
The brick wall blues don’t move
These blues don’t move
They don’t move
From afar

The brick wall blues are stacked tight, stacked thick
They won’t fall down easy
They won’t fall down soon
Got to break them down over time
Over time
The brick wall blues don’t move from afar, it’ll take time

You feel easy, you don’t feel proud
Feel worn, your feet can’t carry you over the ground
Hop the bus at the Cortland stop
Faces are stretched down to the floor
Out of the window people are blurs
Searching for cigarette butts
They glow orange, trying to stay warm
Drinking from brown bags
Leaning against brick walls
Holding penny-less cups
Need some spare change to replace the cold hands in the pockets
Need a change, need a change
Away from the brick wall blues

The brick walls are painted blue
The brick wall blues don’t move
These blues don’t move
They don’t move
From afar

The brick wall blues are stacked tight, stacked thick
They won’t fall down easy
They won’t fall down soon
Got to break them down over time
Over time
The brick wall blues don’t move from afar, it’ll take time

Look up to the air
There’ll be a show
Good times are ahead
Rolling down the road
It may not be on time
But there’ll be an air show
The brick wall will crumble to the ground and the blues will fly away
Just wait, the air show will come
Look up to the air
There’ll be a show
Good times are ahead
Rolling down the road
An air show at the end of the brick wall blues
