(the work of forest allread)

Since eighty five I ran around the house
A dyed turtle shell on my head
My hair was bleach blond
Flying back in the wind
Like I was on a rocket, I always did my part
Rose to elevate, compared it to the charts
My childhood, growing tall, full grown
It has always been so real
Now that tiger on my le tigre runs by my heart
As it pounces to the words sliding from the lips
All the promises that rest in your chest pocket
Can’t find the words
And this morning I wake to pat down my hair
Smiling grin, I don’t want to not fit in
Got to keep my ten
Cause when we met, it was fate?
The answer is thanks

Love is raw, love is raw
If it’s not, it was fake
Write it all down, it don’t have to be deep or tall
Cause you can’t pause love
I don’t want something that is fake

I dug hanging with that girl at her place
It was in the burbs west of the Lake
She said let’s go downtown, I said I love trains
She wants to drive, it’s her time and she don’t want it to escape
But we’re always fashionably late
We turned on down Michigan Avenue
Where she went Veruca Salt over a pair of heels
I thought about rent, gas and electric bills
She’s got her needs and I was like damn those kids out there
Can create a nasty beat on those drums
So I went outside and took a front row seat on the concrete ledge
She stayed and bought her squirrel then came out and I covered my face
Until she walked away thinking I was gone
I know it was wrong but love is raw and this felt fake
I always wonder what is real
Today I got a taste
Some things are just not made
To last long enough to be a waste
And tomorrow will witness a change
Cause I didn’t like that aftertaste

Love is raw, love is raw
If it’s not, it was fake
Write it all down, it don’t have to be deep or tall
Cause you can’t pause love
I don’t want something that is fake

As I’m back in the car driving on Interstate Five to fate
My feet are completely numb to surprises and pain
I’d take it all and pay the toll
There’s nothing I want to replace
It seems short but hours are long
It is what it is so I don’t wear a watch
That’d weigh down my ways
Cause I don’t like to hear the seconds wane
See the hands twist
And I’m twenty-four, all these people are in this race
I’ve bridged the gap so many times
Just to run into another lake
Love is raw, love is raw
If it’s not, it was fake

Love is raw, love is raw
If it’s not, it was fake
Write it all down, it don’t have to be deep or tall
Cause you can’t pause love
I don’t want something that is fake

I wake to the sound
The tree limb
Scratches on the glass
In the window pane
Today is another lap
Where I walk in and out
Of that door, down that hall
I can’t predict the times
But I know what happened then
And it will happen again
I’ll start running at the view
I’ll start running at the sound
I’ll run cause there’s only a few
Places but they’re all gone now

I once was hit by lightning
I was lucky
My feet were off the ground
It got the blood stirring
At the speed of light
And now when I hear the thunder
My mind is running
At the speed of sound
Cause all I know now
Is I’m all better, running
Better, running
I’m all better now, running

Here come the clouds
I better start running
Thunder’s pounding loud
Negative split times
It is coming
It’s all coming now
I better start running
I better start running now

I was stopped in my tracks
Growing roots
Hearing footsteps
Saw the sun frown
A deer in headlights
I couldn’t move
I once said I’d never leave the ground
My airplane just landed
There was nothing more
Worth staying around
You know the feeling
When a King gives up his crown
I am hungry, starving
My stomach’s growling loud

Here come the clouds
I better start running
Thunder’s pounding loud
Negative split times
It is coming
It’s all coming now
I better start running
I better start running now

The clouds are coming
Blacker than my coffee
No crème, no sugar
Footsteps on water
It trembles
At the sound
Of thunder
The splashes send out
A fragrance that asks
Are you ready?
Beware of now
The hounds are barking
Gun shots fire
Are you ready?
I’m running
I’m running now
And I think I now know
I won’t stop
Cause I don’t even know
Why I’d ever want to
Take that chance
So I’m running now
I’m running
Even though I don’t have to

Fuse the South with the North
Rip the stop sign from the wall

Drink a Pepsi with a straw
Get a buzz on a cigarette
On the way to the mall
Buy your favorite book
From the Comic Shoppe
Trade-in what you once said
Until death do us part
For your favorite song
Heard at the VMA’s
Fireworks were on the stage
Hopefully the exchange won’t cost a thing
Better yet, make some money
Eighty-five cents, fair enough
Throw it in a tin
Let it brew till it starts bubblin’, boilin’
Cents spill over into millions
The froth tastes like billions
Dynasties turn ruins
No exclamation point
Dollar signs float into the sky
With music notes
Evaporating into air
Like they’re fluids
Hot on UV rays
Let the music play
And paint your walls
Like it’s your Hall of Fame
With posters, graffiti and street signs
Guiding you down
A holy graphic life
Flowing to the songs
On mix-tape volume one
It was all hung, all amplified live
When you never worried
What if this ain’t right
That goes up may come down
Old becomes new
With a little shoe shine

And remember
Blue lollipops only change
The color of your tongue
For a few hours
So point your plastic gun
To the clouds
And what you like right now
Put it in your Hall of Fame

A milkshake spiked with malt
Next to a foot-long wholly garnished
So good everyone’s on it
Believing, it’s a cult
Grease in the stomach
You should have stopped before that salad
That lett-uce spin you dizzy
Two turntables and a mic
Left you nauseous
Too much speaking
Too much thinking
We sat you down
Slowed it down
Hooked on Phonics
Like the Doctor spinning beats
A calm Phoenix
Flap your wings to the beach
And rock the shore
Hang the décor from the ceiling
To the floor
Away from the corporate store
Line up on the street
Rip it for your friends
It’s a long drive
Keep awake the bees
And their hive
With some fresh jive

And remember
Blue lollipops only change
The color of your tongue
For a few hours

Did you see the King
He was on TV with the Queen
At a conference in the jungle
Getting full on a blue Slurp-E
Dogma, jargon and a jelly donut
Papers signed with Sharp-E
Brick and concrete buildings coming down
Glass blowing skyscrapers
These towns are growing
Celebration, fireworks explode
Into hearts and stars
Watch out, as stone crumbles
Glass cracks
Just ask Rome
Walls are painted with tanks
Posters are hung up strong
Carried by legs in sets of six
They’ll last a few tours
A few wars, long or short
There’s always more
And remember
Blue lollipops only change
The color of your tongue
For a few hours
So point your plastic gun
To the clouds
And what you like right now
Let it make up your Hall of Fame

to hit up them mountains. i wish the alps but colorado rockies, you are my friend.

The boat is taking me higher
I’m no longer afraid of fire
No inclination
There are no differences
Not any longer

The vines grow around the knees
While arms wrap around
The broad trees
The serene sound screams
“This is the love
We evenly need
It’s in the ring
It’s in the rings”

I’m going to let it run
With the dark sails
And the barrels of rum
Pirates are building brotherhood

I’m going to let it fly
With the balanced scales
And the torches on fire
Dragons don’t need to hide in caves no more

I’m going to let it live
With a set of unburdened wings
And the dusts to keep instead of give
Fairies prepared their last wish

The vines grow around the knees
While arms wrap around
The broad trees
The serene sound screams
“This is the love
We evenly need
It’s in the ring
It’s in the rings”

I want to go
All the way to the moon
I hop the fence and hit my head
I’ll be there soon

Thinking
I like to walk around the block
The sun always shines
The fence is unlocked
Springs open all the time
Clock myself doing nine
Speed limit was twenty-five
Didn’t get home until night
I awoke to see it glowing full
After all the rolling hills
Funny how many ways
Dreams are filled

The vines grow around the knees
While arms wrap around
The broad trees
The serene sound screams
“This is the love
We evenly need
It’s in the ring
It’s in the rings”

Keystroke, keystroke, button smash
Type, type, typing fast
Handwriting has turned to trash
Cursive didn’t last
What a shame
I always liked
How I signed my name
And now I’ll have to wait
For fortune and fame-
Us on chutes and ladders
Falling to climb
But this ain’t a game
And climbing can hurt
While leaves float softly
To the ground, gracefully lay
Fortunate with the flowers all around
Growing taller, all the growing pains
The piles, piles and sacks
Of ideas, work, trinkets and play
Great or lame
Dollar signs exclaim my name

I’m hanging by a burning thread
Collecting each case along the way
On that paper train
All aboard, destination fortune and fame
And the road is twisting up ahead

I’m hanging by a burning thread
On that paper train
Burning diamonds like they’re coals
Trying to keep pace
It’s all right there, in my face
Got to catch that train
To fortune and fame
Fortune and fame

I look down at my wrist
Fifty one millimeters
Sitting a – round
As big as a sundial-ed-in
My Nixon says go
And I turn on one-O-one
Drive around the bend
It’s hard getting grown
Becoming more, yet less known
Merge on seventy, heading home
The needle turns
And hits eighty-five
Loops like vultures and sharks
Circling bikes at the velodrome
Nothing else exists
I’ll call you on my mobile phone
While trees and cars blur
In the review mirror
Where fortune and fame come in
A door is held, here’s your coat
Could you sign this for my boy, he’s ten?
Here’s a pen
Dollar signs exclaim
My scribbled name
Fortune and Fame

I’m hanging by a burning thread
Collecting each case along the way
On that paper train
All aboard, destination fortune and fame
And the road is twisting up ahead

I’m hanging by a burning thread
On that paper train
Burning diamonds like they’re coals
Trying to keep pace
It’s all right there, in my face
Got to catch that train
To fortune and fame
Fortune and fame

I’m hanging by a burning thread
Collecting each case along the way
On that paper train
All aboard, destination fortune and fame
And the road is twisting up ahead

I’m hanging by a burning thread
On that paper train
Burning diamonds like they’re coals
Trying to keep pace
